Podcast 005: November 2008

Podcast 005 swings between techie tinged electro and simple deep grooves… two sounds Chris is well known for, both in and out of the studio. His Top 5 begins with a squelchy number from Mr Oizo, followed by ZZT's 'The Worm'.. if you haven't already, get on YouTube and watch the video, it's like a David Attenborough show in super-speed. Next in comes Crazy P's funked up 'Disc Odyssey' and a Tim Weeks remix of 'Restless', out on Opaque. Sitting at the top of Chris' list is Riva Starr with the appropriately titled 'Squash'… you'll see what we mean….

Before the sound takes a deeper direction, we're treated to the vocals of Nanchang Nancy on Baggi Begovic's 'It's only nothing', the Rene Amesz remix. And then it all goes a little bit dark and twisted...

H.O.S.H's 'The valve' sets things up nicely, ahead of another tune which totally fits it's description; 'Congo man' by George F, the Re Dupre remix. Next up come two tracks filled with heavy bass-lines, one from Oliver Dahl and the other by German based Oliver Huntemann. The up tempo beats continue with Fantastic's 'Le club', a track that's got 'big-room' written all over it, before finally peaking with our friend Deadmau5 - Desynchronized, the John Made Remix.

In-line with the tone of this fifth edition podcast, Chris brings things to an end with an electro-clash b-side from Calvin Harris's album 'The girl's and a twenty-nine year old classic from Giorgio Moroder; a man who's pioneering work with synthesizers in the 70's, continues to influence electronic music across the globe.

Catch us next month for our December issue, which promises to hold a special little treat. Until then, good luck with the Christmas shopping!

Podcast 004: October 2008

Chris delivers Podcast 004; ever so slightly lighter than last month, but suitably moody for the dark winter nights ahead. As expected, the Top 5 sets an early standard with new releases from the likes of Proxy and Deadmau5 to get you going. On Rising Music, we offer up Chris' remix of the hugely talented Sia... an artist he quoted as being: "the greatest live vocalist I've ever seen"; but also the well-anticipated release of 'Reward is MORE cheese'. We get Sebastien Leger on the phone to discuss Irish clubbers, South American culture and a new collaboration with Eric Prydz.

Then moving into the second half off the show, Chris really jacks up the pace climaxing with the Timo Mass dub of Green Velvet's absolutely massive 'Flash'. To bring things down, we're treated to some heavy bass-lines from Amon Tobin and the beautifully trippy 'Berlin' by Caged Baby.

This month sees Chris take a slightly darker direction in his choices. Starting with his top five, he sets an early groove before moving into the Chris Lake Remixed E.P. This latest release sees Rene Amesz and Adam Shaw give their interpretations of Chris' unreleased track 'Deadline', Rudi Stakker remixing 'Release' and Mastiksoul's tribal reworking of the summer smash 'Only One'. Chris moves into deeper territory with Strimmer's 'The Anger' and a great new release on Subliminal. To wrap things up you'll hear the first track off Trentmoller's 2006 album, which when asked how it couldbe defined, Chris looked up for inspiration and simply said: "it's a journey". Happy listening people.
